DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Hamas politburo member Izzat al-Resheq has said that Hamas has agreed to ask an Arab state to host and broker Palestinian national reconciliation talks, but he said that state has yet to receive Abbas's approval.
He has preferred not to name that state.
Resheq said that Hamas has been working tirelessly for the sake of Palestinian unity and agreement for a national strategy in countering the Israeli occupation based on a program of resistance and survival, a program designed to end security coordination with Israel as well as the current split, and to free all political prisoners and form a national government that holds regular elections under proper conditions in the Palestinian National Council, the Palestinian Legislative Council and Palestinian National Authority presidency.
He went on to say that Abbas and Fatah have so far only shown interest in forming a government of independents excluding a program for ”comprehensive national salvation”.
Resheq expressed regret over Abbas's continued verbal onslaught targeting Hamas.
”Abbas's recent statements to the AFP attacking Hamas and launching a slander campaign do not help clear the atmosphere for reconciliation, and they contradict entirely with rumors spread by one Fatah official that Abbas had instructed to stop media incitement campaigns against Hamas,” Resheq said. ”Here is Abbas himself the first to launch a media incitement campaign against Hamas just two days later.”
